Biography

I began painting in earnest after retiring from a nursing career that spanned 40 years. Having free time and an encouraging husband, I returned to a favourite pastime.  This pastime grew into a passion to capture the beauty around us. It was the colours, textures and shapes represented a challenge to reproduce on a canvas. I learned a great deal from each effort, both good and bad! With each attempt I learned what I liked and what I thought did not work.

I had art education from early years supported by parents and at High School had an excellent teacher of art for 5 years. I had learned basic art concepts on which to build. We studied art history and learned so much from them.  years later  I worked in fiber arts.  I had a studio for weaving shawls, placemats etc. I also had various frame looms and did creative tapestries with many different fibers.  I have been self taught for the most part, learning from books, UTube videos and seminars.  I study other’s paintings and learn from their design, use of light and colour.   I was a participant in a painting group and have paintings in Gananoque at VAGA Gallary as well I have paintings at the Brockville
Hospital art gallery.

I enjoy the challenge of painting buildings, old and new.  Old homes have years of character, history and family homes with memories to keep close to the heart. Old structures have perspectives and angles that cast light and shadows, all of which make an excellent challenges.

My paintings hang in four countries; France, Mexico, USA and Canada.  In Canada my paintings hang in homes in Ottawa, Guelph, Toronto, Cornwall, Vancouver, Uculet BC, and Collingwood.

I find in the Thousand Islands the unique characteristics of our Biosphere Arch give way to amazing rock formations in their colour and shape .  Each painting has taught me lessons and brought great joy.
