Biography
Layne Larsen is a self-taught artist who works in a variety of media, including watercolour, acrylic, gouache, egg tempera, graphite, ink wash and coloured pencil. His work is highly realistic and emphasizes the play of light and shadow on his subjects. The latter includes aviation, wildlife (particularly birds), architecture, marine, automotive, landscape, portraits and figure studies.
His work can be found in public and private collections in more than 30 countries including Germany, France, Belgium, Norway, the UK, USA, the Netherlands, Luxembourg,Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Japan, and Hong Kong. His aviation work can be viewed in most of the military and govern-ment aviation museums in Canada.
He is a member of the Visual Artists of Gananoque Area (which also operates a gallery on King Street, the Gananoque Artists Network, and the Thousand Islands Fine Arts Association. He is also a member of the Amer-ican Society of Aviation Artists, an Overseas Friend of the British Guild of Aviation Artists and a member, past President of the Canadian Aerospace Artists’ Association and editor of their quarterly journal, AerialViews.
He is also the owner/operator of a custom framing shop in which all work is performed to archival standards. He also restores antique frames, manufactures custom frames in ovals, circles, octagons, etc.
