Biography
Lisa Leskien is an artist on the loose, often caught with a camera in hand, collecting inspiration from the animals, objects and everyday scenes that make her smile. Her latest body of work features highly textured, hand-carved wood relief paintings—each piece carved, painted and brought to life with bold marks, thick “juicy” paint and wildly exaggerated colour.
Lisa loves the physicality of carving into wood, letting the grain and gouge marks become part of the story. Quirky animals, curious objects and lively landscapes emerge from the surface, giving each work a playful sense of movement and personality.
Alongside creating her own work, Lisa enjoys sharing the joy of making art with others. She teaches painting, printmaking, crochet and creative workshops at the Kingston Seniors Centre, The Agnes Etherinton Art Gallery, and the Hive Studios in Bath, encouraging students to explore boldly and embrace their own artistic voice.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University.
